ARROWBOX Open Arrowbox — free

Add numbered steps to a screenshot — and let them renumber themselves.

Process documentation lives or dies on its screenshots. A picture of the screen with clear markers — 1, click here; 2, then here — beats three paragraphs of prose. The tedious part is the numbering itself: change one step in the middle and every number after it is suddenly wrong. Arrowbox handles that part for you.

The step stamp is click-to-place. Pick the tool, click the screenshot, and a numbered badge appears — 1, then 2, then 3. Delete step two and the rest close the gap. Reorder the stamps and the numbers follow. You never retype a sequence because a procedure changed.

SOP screenshots tend to show internal systems — admin consoles, customer records, config screens. Arrowbox runs entirely in your browser and makes zero network calls after the page loads, so none of it is uploaded anywhere. No account, no watermark. Save the page once and it works offline.

How it works

  1. Paste your screenshotPress Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard, or drag the file in. Multiple screenshots sit on one board, so a whole procedure fits in a single project.
  2. Pick the step stamp toolSelect the numbered step stamp, then click each point of the procedure in order. Every click places the next number: 1, 2, 3.
  3. Edit without renumberingAdd, remove or reorder steps as the procedure changes. Every stamp renumbers itself automatically — the sequence is always correct.
  4. Badge existing annotationsAlready marked up with callouts or arrows? Select several objects and press S to stamp a numbered badge on each one, in order.
  5. ExportExport as PNG, JPEG or PDF (Ctrl+S), or use Copy to put a flattened image on the clipboard — ready to paste straight into your SOP template or manual.

Why Arrowbox

Questions

How do I add numbered steps to a screenshot?

Paste the screenshot into Arrowbox with Ctrl+V, select the numbered step stamp, then click each point of the procedure in order — each click places the next number. When the sequence reads correctly, export as PNG, JPEG or PDF, or Copy the flattened result to the clipboard.

What happens to the numbers if I delete or reorder a step?

They renumber automatically. Remove stamp three and the later stamps shuffle down; reorder the stamps and the sequence follows. That is the point of the tool — procedures change constantly, and hand-renumbering screenshots is where documentation goes stale.

Can I number annotations I have already made?

Yes. Select several objects — callouts, arrows, boxes — and press S. Arrowbox stamps a numbered badge on each one, in order. Useful when a screenshot is already marked up and you want the walkthrough sequence added afterwards.

Are SOP screenshots safe to mark up in a browser tool?

In Arrowbox, yes. The page makes zero network calls after it loads, so screenshots of internal systems never leave your machine. There is no upload, no account and no telemetry. For locked-down environments, save the page and run it entirely offline.
